  • Pourquoi doit-on boire de l’eau ?
  • Why should we drink water ?

    Romain Backes

Do you know what the main resources essential to our survival are? The top three are oxygen, followed by water and food. How long can we survive without these three elements? The rule of three makes it easy to remember: 30 days without eating, 3 days without drinking, and 3 minutes without breathing. This shows how vital the water that makes up 60% to 70% of our body is to our organism. But why is it so necessary? How does it work? And how can we consume it to best benefit from its benefits? This is what we will explore in this article.

    WHY SHOULD WE DRINK WATER?

Simple question, simple answer: to survive. Water is such an important part of our body to ensure the proper functioning of our organs.

Water helps maintain blood volume in the body

Blood carries the oxygen needed by muscles and the brain to absorb nutrients and produce the energy they need to function.
Cells and organs absorb oxygen through the blood and release CO2 through respiration. This is why it is essential to maintain sufficient blood volume to carry the oxygen needed by the body. And since blood is 55% plasma, and plasma itself is 90% water, water makes up nearly 50% of our blood.

    Water helps maintain saliva levels

Saliva, composed of 90% water, helps facilitate the absorption, transport, and digestion of ingested food. By transforming food through chewing, saliva promotes the absorption of nutrients for digestion. Therefore, it is important to maintain a sufficient volume of saliva in the mouth to allow it to perform this function.

    Water helps regulate body temperature

Normal body temperature is between 36.1°C and 37.8°C. Beyond this, the body establishes a thermal regulation system through perspiration. Fever, physical exercise, exposure to heat or sun naturally raise the body temperature, and perspiration helps cool down and bring the temperature back to a normal threshold. However, to compensate for water loss due to evaporation, it is necessary to hydrate regularly.

Water allows the elimination of waste through urine

Urine is 95% water. Its function? It allows, through the kidneys, to eliminate metabolic and toxic waste from the body (drug residues, unabsorbed food, etc.), while preserving the mineral salts essential to our health.
Also, to ensure the proper functioning of our renal system, it is essential to drink enough to regularly renew the urine contained in our body.

    Water helps keep skin beautiful

The quality of the skin does not have a direct impact on our survival, but this protective barrier should not be neglected, because poorly cared for skin is less resistant to external aggressions, dries out and ages more quickly.
The skin is the largest organ in our body, and it is made up of over 80% water. Regular hydration promotes cell renewal, makes the skin supple and soft, and strengthens its protective power.
